Welcome to Basirhat College
In mid-November 1947 Basirhat College was founded and since then it has been standing for more than half a century on the banks of river Icchamati, which flows by this ancient seat of learning and culture that has witnessed many souls of the soil rise to eminence.
Course Offered
The College offers both Honours and General Courses of study in 3 streams, viz. Science, Arts and Commerce.
The College runs three sections viz., Morning, Day and Evening
Library
The College Library is just sufficient to meet the immediate requirements of the students. The books – both text &reference, journals, collection of papers would amount to about 20,000 to which every year materials are added from the UGC Grant and the College fund..
Education embraces not only facts but also values – it inculcates such good practices which may help reveal our qualities and perfections in every sphere of life. BasirhatCollege endeavors to impart such value based education within the sphere of University - syllabus guided teaching and learning environment supported by the student – friendly approach of our teaching community at large. Coordinating among Teaching staff, Non-teaching staffs, students and Administration in a large College like us with 6000 + student strength as well as among various tasks, is really challenging. Cooperation from all quarters is the main driving force for which the College is cruising along its steady all-round development path. The College has already traversed more than 60 years since its establishment in the year 1947 and we observed Diamond Jubilee of the College on 16.11.2007. Diamond Jubilee Souvenir – “Hirakdyuti” – was published containing academic articles from the teachers of our College and other institutions. A separate building has been built in the main campus with UGC grant, adding to the number of available classrooms; an auditorium is under construction; thinking about introduction of new courses (Undergraduate) and PG courses is under consideration; Computers have been provided to the Departments – we definitely are in the path and process of development. Let us hope that BasirhatCollege may play a key role in public welfare and nation building commensurate with its mission statement.
