Welcome to Basirhat College

In mid-November 1947 Basirhat College was founded and since then it has been standing for more than half a century on the banks of river Icchamati, which flows by this ancient seat of learning and culture that has witnessed many souls of the soil rise to eminence.

Course Offered

The College offers both Honours and General Courses of study in 3 streams, viz. Science, Arts and Commerce.

The College runs three sections viz., Morning, Day and Evening

Library

The College Library is just sufficient to meet the immediate requirements of the students. The books – both text &reference, journals, collection of papers would amount to about 20,000 to which every year materials are added from the UGC Grant and the College fund..

Admission 2011-12

General Information

1. Admission forms of 1^st yr. B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com. (Hons. & General) for the session 2011-12 will be issued on and from 15^th June, 2011 from the College within 11-30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.

2. Direct admission will be taken to the following courses on and from 4^th July (Monday):

a) B.A., General Day – 500 seats

b) B.A., General Morning – 600 seats

c) B.Sc. Bio General – 60 seats

d) B.Com. General

e) B.Sc. Pure General – 100 seats

f) Honours subjects:

Accountancy Hons. (Seats – 100),

Pol.Sc. Hons. (Seats – 125),

Economics Hons. (Seats – 10),

Physiology Hons. (Seats – 20).

Last date of Direct Admission: The last date of Direct Admission fixed by the WBSU, Barasat subject to the availability of seats.

3. Admission on the basis of Merit List will be made in the following Courses:

Merit List will be prepared on the basis of – Best of four (4) subjects of H.S. or equivalent Exam. (including the subject applied for Hons. excluding Env. Education) + marks obtained in the subject applied for Hons.

Eligibility

Subject Eligibility

Economics Hons. Passed H.S. / Equivalent with passed in Mathematics / Business Mathematics.

Physiology Hons. University Criteria

All other Hons. Sub. Gen. Caste – 50% in Aggregate & 45% in Subject.

OR

55% in Subject or 50% in Aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his / her previous qualifying exam.

S.C. & S.T. – 40% in Aggr. OR 40% in Sub.

B.A. General (Day) 45% in Aggregate excluding Env. Education

B.A. General (Morning) Passed H.S. / Equivalent

B.Sc Bio. (General) Passed H.S. / Equivalent with Bio. Sc. And Chemistry (Passed in both Theo. & Prac.)

Students from Vocational Stream – Not Eligible.

B.Sc. Pure (General) Passed H.S. / Equivalent with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (Passed in both Theo. & Prac.).

B.Com. (General) Passed H.S. / Equivalent with Science or Commerce.

Important Dates

1. Admission forms will be received for merit list – from 15.06.11 to 25.06.11 within 11.30 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

2. Merit list will be published – 02.07.2011 at 11.30 a.m.

3. Dates of Admission on the basis of merit list – 04.07.11, 05.07.11 & 06.07.11.

4. Publication of waiting list – 13.07.11 at 1.00 p.m.

5. Dates of Admission on the basis of waiting list – 13.07.11, 14.07.11 & 15.07.11

6. Date of Commencement of classes of 1^st year both General & Honours – 23.07.11.

7. Subject change must be made before submitting the Registration Form.
