Welcome to Basirhat College

In mid-November 1947 Basirhat College was founded and since then it has been standing for more than half a century on the banks of river Icchamati, which flows by this ancient seat of learning and culture that has witnessed many souls of the soil rise to eminence.

Course Offered

The College offers both Honours and General Courses of study in 3 streams, viz. Science, Arts and Commerce.

The College runs three sections viz., Morning, Day and Evening

Library

The College Library is just sufficient to meet the immediate requirements of the students. The books – both text &reference, journals, collection of papers would amount to about 20,000 to which every year materials are added from the UGC Grant and the College fund..

NSS

Activities of the NSS unit of the College are quite multi dimensional. The NSS unit is under the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Unit arranges Camps in rural surrounding interiors as well as in slum areas and carry out projects like constructing and mending village roads, house repairing, social & health awareness programs etc.; arrange seminars on topics of social importance viz., awareness campaign on Cancer, AIDS etc.; arrange blood donation camps etc. Achievements of the Unit include that it represented University of Calcutta in Two National Integration Camps at Cuttack and Shilong.

Some of the programmes carried out in the year 2007-08:

08.12.2007 - Seminar on AIDS organised by our unit jointly with the Students Health Home, Basirhat Regional Center.
13.11.2007 - Workshop on "Phelna theke Khelna" was held : members of a local renowned N.G.O. 'Swanirbhar' trained our volunteers how to prepare useful domestic goods from garbages, papers etc.
22.01.2008, 31.01.2008 -Two 'One Day Camp' at the adopted villege Dhaltita in which earthen road reparing, renovation of roadside drain etc. were conducted.
